The Calverley interests in Eryholme after 1683 were entrusted to Christopher (sic)Pinkney. He was resident in Eryholme by 1683 when he married Dorothy Dobson, daughter of George the second winner of the silver arrow. They had nine children (actually 10), all baptised at Eryholme, from 1864, naming the first born son, baptised in 1687, 'Calverley' in honour of Christopher's deceased master. In 1696 (sic)Pinkney was tenant of Hill House and may have been so since his marriage. He continued to serve Dame Mary, being described as her agent in 1697 and was nominated as trustee of her charities in 1715. (sic)Pinkney bought land in Eryholme, Dalton and Blackwell where he finally settled. He died in 1724, almost certainly sharing with George Dobson and George Burnet, the Calverley/Sherard attachment to the Whigs. |
