Other Information

Note*William Burgess There are some interesting details regarding William and his wife Mary Anne. They married in 1839, he was listed as a minor because he was only 20.

In the 1851 census she is listed as Marian but also in the house is her Niece Susan Beckwith so we definitely have the right family. By then they have two children Hephzibah and Mary Ann.

In the 1861 census she is correctly listed as Mary A and she is from Waltham Abbey.

In the 1881 census William is living with his daughter Hephzibah and her husband John Gibson. William is listed as a Widower. However, Mary Ann is now living with their other daughter Mary Ann, who has by then married William Hatch but she also lists herself as a Widow.

So it appears that one of the parents went to live with each of the daughters but both describe themselves as Widowed.
