BORN near the parish of Winchester, Hampshire. Attested at Durban on 14 March 1901 at age 50 years and discharged 4 July 1902 due to time expired at Maritzburg, Natal. Served one year and 109 days. Character - very good. Description on discharge: Age 51, Height 5' 6", complexion Fair, eyes Brown, Hair Grey, Trade Farmer. Intended place of Residence: New Zealand. Received the South African Clasp 1901-02. "I George Pickney hereby acknowledge to have received from the Commandant of the New Zealand Defence Force a clasps for the South Africa, 1901 & 1902 awarded to me for service in South Africa. Dated at Gisborne 27 May 1906". |
